Does Custom Bottled Water Have Chlorine or Fluoride?
Does bottled water have chlorine or fluoride? It depends entirely on how the water is treated. Purified bottled water made by reverse osmosis — like DrinkMore’s — has essentially no chlorine and no fluoride, because those steps remove them. Tap water and some spring or “drinking” waters often contain both. Here’s how to tell the difference, and what’s actually in a bottle of custom labeled water.

Why tap water has chlorine and fluoride
Municipal utilities add chlorine (or chloramine) to disinfect tap water, and many add fluoride for dental health. Both are legal and common — but they affect taste, and they aren’t what most people want in a premium bottled product.
Does purified bottled water have chlorine?
No. Properly purified water has had chlorine removed. Activated carbon filtration adsorbs chlorine and the compounds behind that “pool water” taste and smell. DrinkMore water passes through carbon filtration as part of a multi-stage process, so there’s no chlorine taste.
Does bottled water have fluoride?
Purified water made by reverse osmosis has no detectable fluoride. Reverse osmosis forces water through a fine membrane that removes dissolved minerals and ions — including fluoride. Spring and mineral waters are different: they can naturally contain fluoride. DrinkMore is purified, not spring, and reverse osmosis is central to our process — so our water has no detectable fluoride. Some purified water brands add fluoride up to the legally allowed FDA limit, but DrinkMore prefers to produce completely pure water.
Purified vs. spring vs. tap: what’s in the bottle
- Purified (reverse osmosis): no chlorine, essentially no fluoride, very low total dissolved solids (TDS).
- Spring: naturally occurring minerals; may contain some fluoride.
- Tap: typically chlorinated, and often fluoridated.

How DrinkMore purifies its water
DrinkMore uses a multi-stage process — carbon filtration, reverse osmosis and ozonation — finishing at roughly 1 part per million total dissolved solids, among the purest available. That’s why our water earned the gold medal for Best Purified Water at the 2025 Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting.
Why it matters for custom labeled water
When you put your brand on a bottle, what’s inside reflects on you. Clean, neutral-tasting purified water — no chlorine, essentially no fluoride — means a consistent, premium taste with no “tap water” aftertaste.
